One of the aims of our photography programmes is to foster professionalism. Therefore, while you are using the resources provided for your education, you should always strive for the highest ethical and professional standards.

  • If you are providing a commercial service, charge a commercial rate
  • Don't get sucked into the "I'm only a student" mentality. You are better than that. If you're not, don't do the job! If your photography is worth it to the client to use, you are worth paying.
  • Don't get sucked in to the "Its good experience" mentality. Nothing pisses professional photographers off more than amateurs undermining the value of their photography. Its a lose-lose situation.
  • When you do a scam job, give it a monetary value.Try to work out a contra deal with the client. Goods or services in exchange for your goods and services. Always present them with an invoice so that they know the value of your work and the monetary value of your discount. Be self respecting; you will earn their respect.
  • Remember to always charge the client for the equipment and studios that that you have borrowed at the current market rate. Next time they need a job from you, they will know the real value for hiring equipment and studios and what they will expect to pay.
  • Never give away your copyright. Your photograph is your Intellectual Property. Bill Gates understands this, so does Paul Getty. That's why they are some of the richest people in the world. And they are getting richer because they are buying up some of the hottest property around: Photographs
